Your special day can help fund GO2 for Lung Cancer programs, while honoring someone special. Alyssa Vasquez Nichols shares why and how she chose to incorporate giving into her own wedding this past fall.

“My mom was diagnosed with Stage IV NSCLC in 2009. When they discovered the cancer, it had already metastasized to her bones. She was given three months to live. She literally fought for her life and lived FIVE years after her diagnosis.

In that first year of treatment, my family discovered Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, now GO2 for Lung Cancer, when they were doing 5K’s in downtown Chicago. We started that first year. Mom made it to one and my dad pushed her the entire 5K in her wheelchair. We continued to support every year and I even hosted fundraising events at the bar I work at.  She was a fighter, my best friend, and when she passed in 2014, I realized my life would never be the same.

When my husband and I were planning our wedding in 2019 I thought that NOTHING would be better than to support GO2 for Lung Cancer once more by making a donation in my guest’s honor. That way, all of our family and friends could see how much the foundation has meant to us over the years and, of course, to honor the memory of my mother. Our wedding guests loved the donation cards that were placed at each place setting and thought it was a wonderful way to honor my dear mother.”
