LCAM 2017

This November was the most impactful Lung Cancer Awareness Month (LCAM) to date! With your efforts, time and ongoing support we were able to reach more people, raise more awareness and ignite more change than ever before.

Thanks to all those who came out to an LCAM event. Shine a Light on Lung Cancer, the largest coordinated lung cancer event, spanned across 167 hospitals nationwide with about 8,350 attendees, while volunteer-driven fundraisers raised over $4,000. The online community came together as a united front, using #LCAM, spreading the word by sharing fact graphics and telling their personal stories. Together we touched 500,000+.

Our local communities showed up in a number of ways. From walks, like Lung Love Walk Houston, to the “Life And Breath” Rally on Capitol Hill to demand lung cancer be declared a state of emergency, everyone contributed and made a difference. Lung cancer advocates were featured in their local newspapers to get the word out, reaching 346 million people!

LOOK AHEAD

We are humbled by your strength and dedication to such an important cause, but we must remember this is just the beginning. This hard work will launch us into the new year where we expect to see new research findings for lung cancer, larger community events and louder advocates fighting for those who can’t.

EVENTS

Now you can Shine a Light on a Lung Cancer all year long! Start a fundraising page, initiate an event or donate your birthday to the cause. Here are the easy steps to make this happen!

Our Lung Love Run/Walk 2018 agenda is underway.  Stay tuned in the new year for details!

RESEARCH

There are a number of new lung cancer treatments in the pipeline we hope to see approved in 2018. Notably, we are excited about promising new studies for those with small cell lung cancer.

Remember that clinical trials are an option at all stages of your lung cancer journey. To learn more about your treatment options and being matched with a clinical trial, call our HelpLine at 1-800-298-2436 or email support@go2.org to speak with one of our Clinical Trial Navigators.

ADVOCACY

LCA’s 2018 National Advocacy Summit is in the works and slotted for summer, 2018. Stay tuned for details to come!

In the meantime, you can advocate right now by sharing your personal story with your federal legislators via email, snail mail or even a tweet. Click here to take action!

SUPPORT

As you know, the only person who truly understands what you are going through is someone who has gone through it themselves. If you are a lung cancer survivor or caretaker, consider becoming a Phone Buddy or Guide to offer peer-to-peer support for those impacted by the disease. Offer your personal experience to make someone else’s journey a little easier.
