The Rays of Hope Award has been established to honor the late Richard Heimler, a past Lung Cancer Alliance board member and a voice for hope and research advocacy.
This annual award will be presented to an individual—survivor, caregiver, friend or advocate—who has demonstrated leadership in generating awareness and compassion for the lung cancer community, helping many patients and families through their own battles with the disease. The award will recognize an eloquent storyteller who utilizes credible and motivating information to inspire patients, advocates and those at risk.
Requirements for award nominees include visibility to the general public in a variety of ways:
- Article placements or features in national media outlets.
- Social media influencer on platforms such as Facebook, blogs or Instagram, with a large base of followers.
- National and regional public speaking engagements.
- Other demonstrated achievements in moving the lung cancer cause forward, such as establishment of lung cancer specific healthcare and support programs.
The awardee will be recognized with an award ceremony at the National Advocacy Summit and a video of their award-winning message that will be shared with the broader community on GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer’s website and through social media platforms. The awardee will also be featured in the annual GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer Impact Report.
In addition, over the course of the awardee’s ‘Rays of Hope’ year, they will be invited to speak to larger forums as opportunities arise. In this way, the awardee will share their message of hope and resilience just as Richard Heimler did.
