About Screening

Lung cancer screening saves lives.

Lung cancer screening with a low-dose tomography (also known as low-dose CT or LDCT) scan is the only current, proven method that can detect lung cancer earlier, before symptoms occur, when it is more treatable and even curable. Learn more about screening eligibility and help save lives!

AM I AT RISK?

Annual lung cancer screening is recommended and covered by Medicare and most private insurers for individuals whose age and smoking history place them at higher risk for lung cancer.

SHOULD I BE SCREENED?

Annual screening helps find lung cancer early when it is easier to treat and more likely to be cured.

WHERE DO I GO TO BE SCREENED?

You should be screened for lung cancer in an experienced center that follows approved guidelines for lung cancer screening.

Screening Story: Barney

“With no symptoms of lung cancer, I went in for a low-dose CT scan after receiving a direct mail flier. The pulmonologist diagnosed probable lung cancer on the right upper lobe, so I had surgery to remove the lobe. I was lucky in that no chemo or radiation treatments followed because the cancer was caught early. For the last five years my follow-up CT scans have been negative. Always be aware that you and your family have to be your own advocates. Early CT scans work!”

– Barney B., Stage IB lung cancer survivor
