Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a less common type of lung cancer. Only about 15 out of 100 cases of lung cancer are found to be SCLC. It is named for the small, oval-shaped cancer cells seen under a microscope and usually starts in the main breathing tubes in the center of the chest. It is diagnosed in the same way as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) but is treated in a different way.
