The GO2 for Lung Cancer is honored to announce that on May 2 two of our programs received Your Cancer’s Cancer Community (C2) Awards. These awards celebrate “the unsung heroes of cancer care” – individuals and organizations that advance cancer care and work to improve the lives of those living with the disease.

The Centers of Excellence (COE) program received Your Cancer’s C2 Catalyst for Care Award. This category recognized nominees making the experience of cancer care easier for patients. We created our COE program to bring the best in lung cancer treatment to communities across the country by providing patient-focused, coordinated, multidisciplinary care. Our 30 COE hospitals throughout the US have helped make lung cancer care easier for more than 20,000 patients thus far.

Leah Fine, our amazing Director of Screening and Care Continuum Program, represented the winning program.

We also want to congratulate our winners in the Catalyst for Precision Medicine category, which focused on expanding the boundaries for how to personalize care and ensure the right patients are getting the right medications at the right time.

Barbara Gitlitz, MD and Geoffrey Oxnard, MD, affiliated with the Addario Lung Cancer Medical Institute (ALCMI), won the Your Cancer’s C2 Catalyst for Precision Medicine Award. Through their work as co-principal investigators of ALCMI’s Genomics of Young Lung Cancer Study they discovered that 80 percent of the young lung cancer patients they studied share a genetic mutation that could be targeted with known treatment.

The newly formed GO2 for Lung Cancer – a merger of the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation and Lung Cancer Alliance—will continue to support the growth of these programs. With access to expanded team expertise, additional resources and broader programming we bring the highest quality of care to all those living with lung cancer.
